Happy Valentine's Day to every single and taken person out there. It seems rather incisive that I return from my hiatus on this day of love, mixed emotions and rampant consumerism to write. A major lapse in writing came from my huge life transition with a combination of writer's block and downright laziness. If it is even conceivable to grasp the feeling of having so many thoughts in your mind yet being unable to write, welcome to my world. Ironically, three months ago in my multiple attempts to write, I started to compose my thoughts on the notions of love and soulmates. It's unbefitting of my usual writing style but it insists on pairing with wine.
Have you ever thought about the paradox that is love? In it there is complexity yet simplicity. It can be overly-consuming and somehow sufficient. I think soulmates are about compatibility and connection and you can have more than one soulmate in one lifetime. They can be platonic or romantic and exist simultaneously. When I think about the events that surround finding a soulmate, I look at as history in a timeline and how it may be viewed as a plane with different events scattered on a graph until we arrive at a point when we become conscious or acquainted with it. As people we tend to limit ourselves and aim for unrealistic goals of finding 'the one and only', confining ourselves to the very concept of one in a million. The uneasily attainable seems to attract everyone, like those edible golden food trends (which are total b.s by the way) or a moth to flame in that the danger is great expectations. I call b.s on all of it because the allure of edible golden food doesn't actually enrich the palate and we get anology of the moth already .
I find the greatest of love to be in friendships because they make best life partners and soulmates. To paraphrase Friedrich Nietzsche, 'it is not the lack of love but the lack of friendships that ruins relationships'. The friendships that last a lifetime and are nurtured with care and wisdom. I think it takes a level of wisdom to love because on its own, love can be like a rebellious angsty teenager and that's why it's said that you should think with your heart and mind. Love is beautiful and problematic in all its forms.
To self-love, loving others and accepting love (Hope we learn all three)
